Budget and Outdoor California Fun Spots!

California truly has it all and that’s the most overwhelming thing from a travel-planning perspective. Then there’s the assumption that it’s expensive and one might start thinking that a trip there is just not possible. Well my friends, this guide to five great budget and outdoor California fun spots will convince you that a trip to the Golden State is just what the doctor ordered!

Napa Valley

Many people think of Napa Valley as only wine and beautiful vineyards and they’re mostly right. A great way to combine wine and outdoor fun is through Westwood Hills Park. There are many other outdoor options though and Skyline Wilderness Park is a great start if you want to experience some beautiful nature through a hike or bike. Best Western Premier Inn is the most wallet-friendly that’s close enough to the main Napa Valley attractions.

Glendale

Glendale easily gets associated with nearby Burbank and the rest of Los Angeles but it’s a great destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Fancy hotels are all around but you can snag a great steal at places like Vagabond Inn in the city center. Forest Lawn Memorial Park is worth a trip for a look at beautiful art surrounding many final resting places. Deukmejian Wilderness Park has a variety of trails that will challenge and relax depending on the path you choose after entering.

Roseville

Sacramento residents certainly know Roseville as a great getaway from the city and you will too after spending time there. Miners Ravine Trail is a great running and walking spot right in the middle of Roseville. Golfland Sunsplash will definitely appeal to the younger ones in your party, with an exciting variety of rides and wet fun that will get all of the kids’ energy out! Homewood Suites Sacramento Roseville is the best find that keeps your budget in mind when staying in Roseville.

San Luis Obispo

Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa’s beautiful scenery and architecture are where many people start when visiting San Luis Obispo but there’s definitely a lot more in and around SLO. Many people also head out towards Avila Beach but if you stick around the Downtown Historic District, Thursday Farmer’s Market will fill your belly with tons of locally sourced deliciousness. Stay at Sands Inn and Suites and you’ll be right within walking distance of all the action and able to save a few dollars along the way!

San Mateo

Silicon Valley visitors will love San Mateo for its proximity to San José and San Francisco but mostly for all the fun outdoor things to do there. Spots like Coyote Point and Seal Point Park are two getaways that are close to each other and perfect for quiet walks along the water. Not far from the budget-friendly and cozy Hillsdale Inn, the San Mateo Japanese Garden’s beautiful flowers will take you across the Pacific without ever having to book a flight.

Get ready for an epic trip now that you have these budget and outdoor California fun spots to add to the itinerary. Which one stands out to you as the most interesting? Either way, enjoy your journey through California and travel safely!
